If you had to choose between the Northern USA ( including the great lake states) vs SOuthern USA all in terms of their culture and lifeway and how they live, and where you want to live which would you choose and why?

The south has the better weather, lower taxes, and crummy education. The north is frozen, high taxed, and decent schools.
The south has better college football, but the colleges are weak.
I've voted with my feet, and live in the south.

I've voted in my first election with many questions in my mind , think and plan with ambition and long term goals , more urban ( even tho Ive grown up in suburbia america, they have connections to the cities), into diversity and culture yet at the same time do my best to keep it traditional or within moderation. I also have the belief that the country was founded under the basis of hard work, industrialization of people who produced and contributed to society as well as Uncle Sam. Hailing Uncle Sam, I believe in loyalty to the United States and power in contributing and leading the nation . Wheareas I have learned in the south stemming from the Civil war due to the division of the union and confederate, they are loyal to their kinship and families and less trusting of the government. With that Im more acquainted with the upper midwest ( states such as Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin)/ north /new england where most the money, capital, world class liberal arts and top notch education in the nation flows from and where they have the most dominance.

Peter, you are correct when it comes to families in the South, much like the Asian culture. Family is everything.
But those days are waining in the South as if there is hazing envolved, states and schools are clamping down it by rules, regulations, and laws.
The so called (White Greek Organizations understand this while I hate to say, the D-9 Greeks cannot embrase it. If they don't, they will be gone or underground.

Tom, you are right about the south and some of the greek organizations.
While I'd keep it strictly to regions here, whenever I look and imagine the southern USA, especially the deep south states in my point of view, looking at them seems beautiful on the outside with the southern charm and beauty and "southern hospitality"?
Considering how homogenous the south really seems to be,you are right about what you told me before about "WASP" people .As much as I am a firm believer of diversity as much as I know you " always love to meet people that are not of the WASP types who can be very boring at times" I agree completely.
From my experience, they could be very boring people over time, especially to be surrounded with and even to live with just mostly a homogenous group of these kind of guys. Not only that, personally while I do give them credit for being traditionally dominant in many areas such as politics and business, I think they seem pretty unoriginal. We've heard this football, basketball, baseball, football, basketball, baseball, football, basketball, baseball, football...... yeah like heard that many times. Not to mention to me, the south while it has some charming beauty, it does not seem too original. Hardly anything else interesting during free time. Get the idea?

Thats right Tom Actually Ive been in the south as I have lived there over 10 years ago with my parents and while they know what they are talking about. Times surely have changed I know that for sure, even though I'm thinking yet I might be wrong that the South has changed slowly. About how much you " always love to meet people that are not of the WASP types who can be very boring at times", I know Ive been there, done that as I actually have many WASP types, or lets say caucasian friends who I have hung out with. Even though I may personally disagree in some cases. But why do you actually think these WASP types can be very boring at times?

WASPs can be boring as they are of a singled minded mine set.
Funny, reading in the K C newspaper about how many Blacks are moving South to get jobs.
Maybe times be changing!
But, never make a determination on just one idea and more'.
Heck we as American Citizens can be flexible. Well I would at least hope.

I agree. Though I would like to disagree on some personal level that in some of my experience hanging out with some of them, I find , given how I have grown up with my parents as much as I have mentioned before about what I believe in, they could be interesting. THough I could see on your side since you grew up with lots of them, I find that easily understandable.
Though I do agree that these WASPs can have a single mind set and I think its due to the fact that they believe their culture and heritage is more superior then other cultures and they therefore discount them or think less of them. Maybe it explains that based on sociological study that people who are of different race or background are more willing or likely to make friends with those outside their own while Ive learned though Im not sure if its really true that the WASPs or whites are less willing or likely to meet people or make friends with those outside. Unfortunately isn't it?
While they may be of single mind sets of their own, in case you have not noticed, even though they can be boring, if not unoriginal folks, they have also traditionally held dominant power in business, politics and the media. For example take looks at the TV networks on your TV, esp I know you like to watch ESPN, with some exceptions such as BET channel which is mostly controlled by AFrican americans, a wide or a disproportionate majority of these top guys that control esp your TV channels are mostly white or WASPs people may or may not be aware about. Considering that its part of the tradition and legacy that they had. Same idea with these Fortune 500 top guys as well as media conglomerates. Also I have to admit that they are really lucky to have faced very little to no discrimination whatsoever and been privileged for many generations in gaining a lot of wealth. However as much as I would wish, hopefully the times will change for the good. Perhaps next time we turn on our TV set and likely either have ESPN, you get the idea of why these top guys or guys controlling the network are who they are? Esp Ted Turner whose business is based in Georgia?

True I know that times have changed. Traditionally the WASPs have held dominant positions in society until about 50 years ago. Now its changing as I know just like apparently Obama and Kennedy have came in and set the standard from the top Yet the WASP legacy remains doesn't it today???

Yep I know I am not that smart but times are changing for sure
As to what you said about WASPs or lets say caucasian people in general, you are right. Especially my experience with them, though there are exceptions, I find them to be boring and not very original nor too open. Thank god no offense but I am not in kansas anymore which basically was kinda my experience with them. Now that I am at a another school I always wanted to come to for good, I know I've told myself in my mind at times "don't remind me of kansas" as though to this day I try not to associate too much with it.
One thing I really find hard outside of the conventional stuff like basketball, baseball, football and conventional stuff,to talk about is diversity and my trip and experience with them, even though I know I don't easily talk forever about it as well as leadership and involvement on campus ( be it honoraries, student organizations, student government, student activities board, anything related to campus life activities) which I could especially easily go on forever about it. I am not opposed to sports, esp game day or football season I am always pumped and looking forward to watching the game and tailgating and the social aspect about it. But I do realize at the same time, there is definitely more then to just the single mind set that WASPs have.

But, I have found in talking with a couple of people, a customer from Iran, and a young man who owns my old liquor store is from Jordan.
They both have commented on how open and friendly we as Americans are compared to most country's.
I found that very interesting especially with what is going on in the Middle East at the moment and may be growing all over the world in some of the theocratic countrys.
Also true with this country it can be broken down in many sections as opposed to just 4. E-W-N-S where weather has and makes a big difference in living.
Some areas are for some while others are for others. Just as you said you feel better at OSU than when you were at KU. That is why we are all a bit different, LOL!
