We all have pet peeves whether it be as small as someone who left the freezer door open and grabbed something and left without closing it to something as big or potentially dangerous as not turning on the turn signals. What are yours?

One of my major pet peeves as I have found out are people or friends who are "fair weather" friends . These kind of people when hanging out with them or spending time with them could drive me up the wall wanting to pound on it To me, they are not considered "friends" at all. They are only friends in the good times or when its favorable or something to their liking. Yet when something bad or something inconvenient comes in their way, they disappear or jump ship. My experience tells me that when something bad happens, that happens or get judgmental. How I see friendship is a real one. Treat me as a real friend and I will do so . I do not want to feel like I have to work or "buy your friendship" or "suck up" to you everytime so to be your friend while nothing is shared with me. When I or someone has a bad day or really is feeling bad about something ( be it left out), at least do that person a favor and listen or make him included.

Exactly right Tom spoken like some true friend To leave someone out or hanging like that, it really makes them feel like a unwanted person or sucker Maybe not all of us see it that way, I admit that I have not until I get the idea now, but perhaps if they could at least take the time to step into their shoes, they feel included. Otherwise in the spirit of charity or respect, they are really being self-centered to themselves. In fact I have once read somewhere in the papers or I think perhaps in one of the wall street journal newspaper that in a restaurant interview, the candidates are judged by how they treat the waiter or the waitstaffs not the higher up authorities, who we are suppose to give respect to anyway. It goes without saying that in life for one thing, how we treat these people who are not as fortunate as they are or like below them is who they are. It does not mean that they can't do their own thing, they could however at the same time its no excuse to act like a fair weather friend. Sometimes I do not understand friends who are so superficial about it, they don't know what is real vs superficial as much as they put on their fake "facade". Nothing gets me more angrier in friends then being fake. But before I make a quick judgment about whether or not they are real , I take time to find out and determine. But after some time or so to me, if I discover they are , I don't have much patience to spend time with them. I don't need to waste my energy with them.

Peter, I am guessing they would not be true friends? You can only go so far as a friend. If they do not count you, treat you, or act like a friend, then I would guess they are not. So, then I would look for others who will be! One thing I found in my Fraternity is if I am wrong, they will tell me and if I am right, they will also tell me! A wise Brother once told me: Tom you may not be right, but while you are seldom wrong you can be. But is true as we all know!

A true friend weathers all that good weather and bad weather. That is what a good friend does then a fair weather friend. A fair weather friend, esp if you get the origin of the phrase being "fair weather", only comes when the weather is nice or fair and to his liking.
Until then that is what I am really looking for after I will admit that I have some who when dealing or hanging out with them after I took time to get to know them, I feel as though I want to run far far away to the woods lolol well since there aren't any nearby woods, I'd run as far away to the downtown or student ghetto area as possible. Nothing really angers me more then hanging out with them in mind as though when I hang out with them, Im likely to feel more skeptical and iffy then have a good time.

Especially the last place that fair weather friends would belong to or where I would want to be with would be in the following groups besides GLOs: military, boy scouts, police force, fire fighter and sports (whether or not its a club sport). Definitely do not belong there. These definitely do not thrive if that fair weather person or friend basically dodges or jumps ship when a problem arises. Imagine lets say you are serving in the military and you got hurt, think about how much that fair weather friend in that bad situation would cause pain there?

Tom, you are right about fair weather friend. To me I'd call them "expensive" friends, not in terms of money but in terms of how to hang out or be their friend I need to cater to them or suck up to them as though Im buying friends. After all I definitely do not need to buy friends.
Its hard to make a decision on that the first time. However if it occurs "over time" or it reoccurs , which I say "over time" which is up to some of us of how we see it, I would begin to get the strong feeling. So basically the point is, takes a pattern. Once is okay, bad day I will have to say. But over time, then basically the choice is there?

Wow, you are right Tom about these kind of friends. I agree and how I see friends is for a long time, not just a one year thing and then I have to find new ones in place of another. That is legwork and does not do me any favors. Nor does it do any favor for me to spread too thin over many or quantity.

When and if/you join a Fraternity, you find some very close friends amongst them. Not all to be sure of course. It is nature at its best or norm! As far as a pet peeve, I dislike members who join and then walk away wanting not part of what they had and got out of being in a Fraternity and the friends that they made. I know we have a few who did not want to talk with me or keep in touch with any others. Thank goodness, there are a lot more who may not be/come around but who do later on. What impresses me is a Afro-American and a Caucasion who have joined together and have done a lot for the chapter over the years. Both are very great Brothers and Friends of not only me but the chapter. As other pet peeves, I dislike people who are phony with me and other people! They only harm themselves!

I know that in the business world, being phony like in the stock market or financial firm- fired . Definitely don't need a dishonest stock broker trying to manipulate stock prices or trying to kill stocks which if you get the idea what that could lead to After all why create more harm then needed when the United States is already losing jobs then we want. Another pet peeve of mine I have found out in my experience reading these comments on greekrank, which I personally find not credible or personally unreliable since people easily slam or trash other chapters to manipulate their popularity and ranking, is when they spread rumors or slam each other, businesses, people to gain advantage over them. All I could say about that is that I get annoyed easily since I am hearing distorted information. Not to mention got this idea from the movie "wall street: money never sleeps" in which this guy spreads viral rumors about a company to manipulate the stock and intentionally have the price drop to the point that they could crash I know in the real world in the stock market, doing that by spreading false rumors or false news so that the business could crash at the expense of the other, thats definitely illegal and could unnecessary hurt businesses. Same with political attack ads, rumors, they definitely make me want to pull my hair or wave a flag making me want to ask "okay, what is it about?" I don't need to hear bad things about it as we all have weaknesses and bad strengths. Have you seen the movie Wall street: money never sleeps? I bet depending on how often you keep up with the financial news or wall street, people do unfortunately do that at expense of jobs. Agreed?

Also in a nutshell, another pet peeve of mine, people who are focused on the "money" or making money or big buck. To me, I believe that when you love what you do or love your profession, the money would come naturally. Its not to mention that watching that movie reminds me about the mixed value of money and how money on one hand could buy them material stuff and basic stuff they need. Not to mention New York City if you get the idea. On the other hand, wealth and money does not last forever and it could lead to trouble. I like to say that money does not determine a man. Whether rich, middle class or poor, what does matter is the personal character of that person. For example, just because that guy is super rich with a fancy car, nice bright clothing with a bright jacket and all that glitz and glory does not mean he is a good friend. I have definitely heard of guys who are rich yet are also egoistic thinking that their money takes care of everything and that it buys them respect. What does matter is friendship and how they treat friends as well as common and practical values
