While fraternities and sororities recruit in their own way, the difference are often hard to understand or unknown to each other. Some could think they are similar. I know one thing for sure sororities have in recruitment are their "once cut, always cut" if you have heard before? Otherwise what are the differences between fraternity and sorority recruitment?

A major difference is alumni involvement. Big time sororities nearly require a 'rec' from an alumna (but a 'rec' can often be obtained for a choice prospect lacking one). In my experience, the guys ask for recs from alumni, but don't get many or depend on them.

I know another difference is that, though this varies from school to school, in a strong greek system, sororities tend to be more pickier and exclusionary on the year they are in in college (frosh, soph) and age then fraternities. Heck I have heard of a chapter before that has a 24 year old man and a 20 year old freshman, even at a chapter that has plenty of alumni support.

Peter, the school really does not have anything to do with it. The Sororities have a different idea than Fraternities do. Yes, girls need recs. Guys don't on the norm just like legacies. Sororities have membership quotas, Fraternities do not. Soroities have quotas that have to be met before any expansion can be done on a campus, Fraternities don't. There is a difference of apples and oranges between the two!! Never try to understand the differences, it will drive you nuts! ;D Oh, there are so many other things to add, but well????LOL! |
