A Cleveland- area driver died early Thursday after he apparently swerved to a avoid a deer standing on Interstate 77, about 2 miles south of New Philadelphia. The driver was identified as Arthur F. Fritch, 58, of Middleburg Heights, according to state troopers at the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol. Fritch was southbound when he swerved to avoid the deer and his 2007 Ford Focus went off the right side of the roadway and struck a ditch. The car flipped onto its right side. He was not wearing a safety belt, troopers said. Fritch was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash at 3:29 a.m. A witness to the crash said that a deer was still standing in the roadway after the crash occurred.
