A lifelong resident of Dow City and 2011 graduate of Boyer Valley High School has announced his 2014 candidacy for the Iowa House of Representatives in District 18, which is currently held by incumbent State Rep. Jason Schultz (R-Schleswig).
During his senior year at Dunlap-based Boyer Valley High School, Dillon Malone received an opportunity to serve the people of Iowa as a legislative page, according to a press release from Malone’s campaign. He continued his passion for politics by attending Drake University to be near the lawmakers in Des Moines, majoring in political science.
While attending Drake University, Malone again served Iowans by serving as State Rep. Ron Jorgenson’s (R-Sioux City) legislative clerk, the press release said. Now, Malone wants the opportunity to serve the people of his home district.
Malone, after careful consideration, has decided to run for Iowa House District 18, which covers Shelby County and portions of Crawford and Harrison Counties, to replace the seat left vacant by Schultz’s decision to run for the Iowa Senate. Also running for the 18th District seat is Steve Holt, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and businessman from Denison.
Malone has been a familiar face in Crawford County, as he is active in the Crawford County Republican Party and has served on the Crawford County Republican Executive Committee, according to the press release. He also serves on the Dow City Planning and Zoning Commission.
Malone serves the people of Iowa by having been appointed by Gov. Terry Branstad to serve on the state Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, the press release said. A 21-year-old college senior at Drake University in Des Moines, he also has served as president of Tau Kappa Epsilon and as vice president of the Drake College Republicans.
Malone is running on four core principles, according to the press release. These principles are ensuring that the House Republicans’ budgeting principles become indoctrinated into the budgeting process, restoring western Iowa through increased career opportunities and opportunities for Iowa students to receive the best education possible, being a strong and courageous voice for traditional values and giving full and unequivocal support to veterans and farmers.
Through his experiences in Des Moines, the press release said, Malone knows what does and does not work under the dome and promises to be a strong voice in stewardship for the taxpayers of Iowa.
