EDMONTON — The University of Alberta has reinstated a fraternity that was suspended five years for initiation rituals that reportedly included making new members eat vomit.
Jason Cobb, a spokesman for the dean of students' office, says the penalty for Delta Kappa Epsilon still stands with another two years still left in the suspension with some conditions.
But DKE was given a "provisional reinstatement" to be allowed back to campus after the group filed an application to the dean of students' office.
"The group had to work over the last three years to do a number of different things to demonstrate their commitment to changing, making improvements, and do the things they needed to do," Cobb said.
"They did that, and that's where they are at."
DKE was initially suspended on Oct. 21, 2010. The initiation rituals also reportedly included depriving new members of sleep and isolating them in plywood boxes. Some of the rituals — which occurred in January 2010 — were videotaped.

Congrats to DKE. Hope they learned a lesson and will grow!

Initiation rituals? Sounds more like a dumb assed hell week practice at a local chapter.
