STATE COLLEGE - State College police are investigating a Penn State fraternity's bank records after receiving reports that nearly $90,000 may be missing from its books.
Police last week received records related to a Citizens Bank account that appears to be at the center of the investigation, according to court documents.
Investigators requested the documents in a search warrant they applied for in January after members of the Theta Delta Chi fraternity contacted them with suspicions that funds had been stolen from the account.
According to the search warrant, fraternity leaders noticed the organization's bank balance was low and that there were a number of large cash withdrawals. Members of the fraternity noticed the unauthorized transactions when reviewing bank statements for the last few months of 2012.
A further review of bank records from August 2011 to December 2012 revealed approximately $57,000 in suspicious cash withdrawals and unauthorized debt card usage that may exceed $30,000, police wrote in the application for a search warrant.
At the time, there was also found to be $38,000 in unpaid invoices that the fraternity owed to the local Fraternity Purchasing Association.
Criminal charges have not been filed in connection with the case. Police have released no information and investigators could not be reached for additional comment Wednesday.
Officials with the Penn State chapter of the Theta Delta Chi could not immediately be reached for comment.
