In 1967, The New York Times covered a DKE hazing scandal in which pledges were branded. Then-DKE president George W. Bush described the pledges' wounds as "only a cigarette burn." And the fraternity was back in the news this October for another ritual, which involved pledges shouting, "My name is Jack, I'm a necrophiliac, I fuck dead women," along with "No means yes; yes means anal," near the freshmen women's dorm. This latest scandal gives Mosse's 2007 video added impact. Imagine being an 18-year-old girl and having a pack of these guys yelling that shit at you. Imagine those pledges as the next president of the United States. www.houstonpress.com/2010-12-02/culture/the-best-b-sides/

Next thing you know they'll say Cheney was the Pledge Educator and that he used waterboarding to get the pledges to conform to standards.

President Bush was quoted in a 1967 article about a NON-required bit of hell week which was tacitly condoned back in the day. Forty four years later there is a rather silly episode involved in sophomoric humor that somehow President Bush is alleged to be the cause thereof? Did I miss something? Like a chain of causality? Sounds to me like someone is doing the Let's Hate GWB dance. Now, as to DEKEs being President of the US. DEKEs must be doing something right, afterall there have been six to serve as President of the US. How many have you guys had?

Just one - - - but since Reagan was the best ever, we didn't need 6 tries to get perfection ;-)
I fully agree with your sumation of them being anti-GWB to stir that up and the connection is dubious at best...that was the reasoniung about my Cheney comment also on the post

btw - I drove in a couple of one of your fraternity brother's motorcades. GHWB #41. He was a pretty good guy too. Just bad placement, for him, on the President he had to follow.

Okay deekeguy, brag on! ;D LXA has only had one also! But as dekeguy said in a "small way", times have changed from some years ago and the hazing part of Greek Life. All of us/we are trying to get away from that stigmatism. I do not care about what one member did, I worry about what a chapter does especillay today! Eveyone can piss and moan about so and so. But how far does the fingure have to be reported to find a skunk out there? Clinton was an APO not a member of a Social Fraternity.

Reagan was initiated into TKE as a student at tiny Eureka College in IL. He was a long-time alumni dues payer, and participated in some leadership events and fund raising after he left office as POTUS.

Thanks, did not know that and KUDOs to Regan for remembering his roots as a Frater of TKE.
We must give credit where is due.
At least he shows how proud he was with his association to a fine Fraternity.

We have only one - Taft But one Taft weighs more than six DKE's ==================================== As I recall, Taft was a Bonesman and I have heard rumors that there seems to be some sort of connection between Skull and Bones and DKE. Also, while I admit that Taft was a heavyweight in his field, be it statesmanship, jurisprudence, or trouser size, I submit that DKE has had a few heavyweights as well, like Taft's immediate predecessor in the White House:)
