Rex, the King of Carnival in New Orleans is a DEKE from the Zeta Zeta Chapter at LSU. The Queen of Carnival is a Pi Phi from SMU.

Tom,
I don't think so. Anyway, he is the king of one of the "tourist oriented" outfits. Rex is the "old guard krewe" that has ruled over Carnival since 1872. And Rex bows to Comus who is the senior Old Guard outfit since 1846. The "tourist" krewes are glitzy and gaudy but really miss the point of what Mardi Gras is all about. Anyway, he is a good actor and I'm sure he will have a blast!

Okay.
The one time I was in the Big Easy, learned to love Oysters on 1/2 shell, hurricans, and mint julips. Cannot remember the club we were at, but made the Hurrican famous?
Saw Pete Fountain play in his club, and showing how small a world it is, saw an old boss there.
Rode the tram car on the East side and went by Tulane Un., and another schools right next door to it. Can't remember the other Un.
God how sad it was when Katrina hit and the levees broke.
Always worried me when I went upon top of the levee and looked down to the city and oh boy if the damn thig breaks, it was going to be very bad.
Mardi Gras seems total chaos but a hell of a party! ;D

Pat O'Brians, home of the hurricanes.
Acme Oyster House - when she was 12 my sister put down five dozen on the half shell with just a squeez of lemon and a dot of tabasco.
Mardi Gras is really two totally seperate things - the tourist scene and the insiders scene. The people who just see Bourbon Street and the Boobs for Beads thing have really not seen Mardi Gras. (Although the beads do generate some outstanding scenery)!!!The trick is to know someone who has entre' to the private Carnival activities. Let me know when you will be there next time and I'll arrange some invitations to some stuff tourists never get to see. You will need White tie and tails for the Carnival Balls and a business suit to wear to my club (unless we are going to the ball later that evening and just wear white tie to the club as well). Peter
