As you pass by Greek Park, landscapers and
construction workers are adding the final touches
to the two new sorority houses and the Greek life
center currently being built there.
The Kappa Kappa Gamma and Chi Omega
houses as well as the Greek life center will be
opening in fall 2013.
“We are thrilled to be able to open additional
houses for the fraternity and sorority community
and to give students an oncampus and
organizational livinglearning experience,” Greg
Mason, director of fraternity and sorority housing
and development, said.
Mason said there are a total of 47 fraternity and sororities at UCF, and the majority of
those chapters do not have houses. Among those 47 organizations, there are currently
11 oncampus houses, which means that by fall there will be a total of 13.
What exactly does this mean for UCF Greek life?
This means that there will be an additional 80 bed spaces, raising the total number of
students residing in Greek Park to more than 460.
The Greek life center will be a place where fraternity and sorority council leaders will be
able to meet and host workshops and leadership programs. The staff who works directly
with the fraternity and sorority community will have offices in this building.
The UCF Housing and Residence Life built both of these facilities to provide more
students with oncampus livinglearning experiences.
“I loved always having someone to go to and there always being someone right in the
next room,” Amy Valenti, a predental major and Delta Delta Delta sorority member said.
“You always have someone to study with, eat with, go out with, all in the convenience of
never leaving campus.”
The average price for a fraternity member to live in oncampus housing is $2,500 per
semester, which includes rent, parlor, chapter, formal and retreat fees.
For sorority members, this cost is a little higher at $3,000 per semester. The fee is
higher because it includes a meal plan along with rent, parlor, chapter, formal and
retreat fees.
“It is an amazing opportunity for students to become more involved in school and in the
community, and it also provides them with a huge support system and can open so
many doors for different things in their lives,” said Gabriella Giannini, a business major
who is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. “No matter what might happen to me or
what I am going through there is always someone who truly cares about me and is there
