Most fraternities have a magazine that they publish one or more times a year. Many of these magazines have recognizable names, like The Teke, or Sig Ep Journal. Others are more representative of their symbols and history;
How many of these can you identify: (Obviously, almost all start with "The")
Cadeuceus Shield and Diamond Cross and Crescent Delta Scroll Shield Rattle Star and Lamp Palm Emerald Lion Rainbow Carnation Kleos Laurel Logos Signet Pillars Tomahawk Saga Pyramid Chakett Circle Unicorn Temple Xaipe Triad Plume Frater Purple and Gold Review Golden Key Shield Pearls and Rubies Triangle Gold Rose Red Carnation Rake Spirit

Mike, glad you brought that up. Its really interesting though that most of these fraternity magazines are named anything apart from the title. Even so I also believe that these magazines are also a great way to keep their fraternity updated, communicate with the nationals as well as more importantly, maintain the "tradition" and provide opportunities for networking? Otherwise so far I could only identity with the Star and the Lamp.
Boy, perhaps do some of us get tired of reading the same information about each chapter in terms of values and who they are. That does get old. Whereas I know a new magazine has new and updated information that keeps it up to date.
Speaking about magazines, by any chance would you know the magazines is published by these two fraternities if you heard before: Delta sigma phi and pi lambda phi ( I have a friend who is in that chapter)?

Mike, outstanding work on your part, but I would expect nothing less knowing you and what you ar trying to do in talking with you! As you and I discussed, more and more are going to electronic magazines as the cost is cheaper. I don't know if LXA was the first and while I wanted a hard copy mailed to me, I have become used to the electronic as in stead of quarterly, it now comes out monthly. It is more available for all members, active or alumni and have embraced it whole heartedly. But remember the National must have a good IT guy and a email contact base to get it spread far and wide. This would be a great way say for Acacia to help it grow and keep in touch. I am sure you will be working on this knowing you, LOL! But, for a start up, you know how hard that could be?!

Tom, You just reminded me. I was just reading some of your fraternities monthly publication, Cross and Crescent. And I totally agree that its a great way to communicate with alumni, the fraternity and active members as well as keep it up to date with how they are living their values. In fact speaking about your fraternity, LXA, by any chance as I know every fraternity has their strongest chapter (if you get what I mean), where are the LXAs the strongest in the USA?

Peter, you are correct. LXA is not in all states but most. Some colonies did not make it such as Alaska, Hawaii was never considered, and Idaho, I think. A lot has to do with economics for cost effecticeness! Check this link: www.lambdachi.org/directorieschapter.aspx?sort=stateMany other Male GLOs are somewhat in certain areas only. Check on the female GLOs and they can be more centralized Major GLOs first tried to be in flagship schools for years, but expansion came to normally state schools who have now become Un. schools! Some started out in state colleges only but now are expanding! This is really neat and hope they can make it!!

Tom, You are right. In fact I will admit that I had been futilely wishing, this fraternity, Pi Lambda Phi ( or PI Lam) was on my campus since I truly and sincerely find myself in line with the values and creed and history they are founded on. In exchange check out this link as well as this publication as Mike attached. Pi Lam Publication: www.pilambdaphi.org/site/c.plKXL7MPIqG/b.6329249/k.2729/Frater_2010.htmPi Lam: www.pilambdaphi.org/site/c.plKXL7MPIqG/b.3529295/k.BFF6/Pi_Lambda_Phi_Home.htmUntil then like you said about how certain ones are concentrated in certain areas only, Im better off going with what is there on my campus then to futilely wish. In fact you heard of Pi Lambda Phi by any chance, even though its probably not a old line but a new line?

Peter, while maybe on your wish list, not being there negates everything.
Yes, it is actually older than LXA by @ 10 years.
So if you feel good about the Group you told me about, it is time to really look to them and quit messing around or be left behind.
Quite over thinking every thing and make up you mind or be left behind!

Good job, Tex ! Practically all are on line, and even a few are in public libraries! A good read, a great way to get your day going. A few nationals are publishing a web-only newsletter, that comes out once a month, or so. And with an equally cryptic name. Pop quiz - who publishes the "Exponent"? Here's another source - individual chapters have their own newsletters - one of the best: www.tnalpha.com/spielJust for you, tom, - here's one from LXA - ehzlxa.com/alumni/communication/the-lamplighter-september-2011/
