BALTIMORE (WJZ) — An honor student at Morgan State University filed a complaint after he says he was kept out of a national fraternity because he is gay and he has text messages he claims are between current members which prove his allegations.

The student says he filed his complaint after he received evidence of gay slurs being used against him by Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity members.
Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity at Morgan State University is at the center of a discrimination complaint after senior Brian Stewart says a member of the national fraternity told him he would not get in because he was gay.
“I was taken aback but I really didn’t pay it too much attention because it was something like, `You’re saying this but I am still going to apply and do what I need to do to get in,’” he said.
But Stewart says hurtful messages between fraternity members proved his sexual orientation would be an issue.
“Stop shading these intelligent [expletives] give them the perception of a `fair and equal opportunity,’” one message read.
“That really put into perspective why they denied me,” he said.
University officials would not go on camera about the matter but released a statement saying, “We are aware of the complaint and we are reviewing the matter.”
Stewart will be a first generation college graduate. He holds a 3.2 GPA and has interned at the White House. He says he complained to make sure other students don’t endure the same discrimination.
“This is a proper course of action, mainly to raise awareness that this happens,” he said.
Stewart actually receives scholarships from Kappa Alpha Psi to attend Morgan State University.
Morgan State says it doesn’t tolerate or accept any kind of discrimination.
