I responded to an email today... I'll have a phone call Tuesday with an Acacia staffer working to get the colony at UofM going. The group seems to be having problems getting members due to not having a house.
While a house is a nice amentity, people don't join a house, they join a group and their ideals and activities.
This is their Alpha chapter from what I can tell. I'll give them the best advice I can.

T J, while I feel you are right, being a Major Un. it is hard for any group to come on campus and thrive with out a house.
Using my Campus as an example, while not a flag ship school, all GLO's have houses. I mentioned TKE trying to come back on campus after having been there for years had no house and not much alumni backing and did not make it. Also with only 3 Sororities and 6 curerent Fratenities, it was going to be a hard row to how.
I guess it needs to be a lot of things thrown into the pot to make a new GLO make it on campus. Alumni support, plans in the future for a house, maybe not a huge house, but a place they can meet at and hang out at. While a house does not make a group, it is the heart of the body, the members are the blood of it.
Some of the OLD line GLOs who would not go into small campi like LXA and TKE did, did not expand. But as we can see, they are now and growing leaps and bounds compared to the older days.
Only some of the smaller campi are expanding so it seems. But it is (?) easier for Male Groups to come on campus since they have less restrictions than Female groups.
Great post!

I spoke with Patrick McGovern about the Acacia Alpha chapter trying to get re-established. Sounds like they are having a rough road.
Hopefully, I gave some advice that will help them since we've been through the same at Ann Arbor, MI recently.
It was a little easier for us though since we have about 6 chapters within an hour drive.
Good luck to them!!
